I just re-jetted to a 150 size main jet. It was really easy. Here is how:
I removed the float chamber with the carb still mounted to the bike. (Be sure to drain it first via the screw and outlet on the bottom right side.) there is no need to mess with fuel lines at all- it won't leak fuel. To remove the float chamber, you can pull the battery box back enough to give you clearance after removing the screws. The main jet will screw right out (down) but be sure not to lose the washer underneath). When screwing in the new jet, be careful not to crossthread (just a reminder); the angle makes it a little hard to get the thraeds to engage. Just take your time. Also be careful with actual float; it is soft, hollow, metal and could be bent/crushed fairly easily. You'll find bent tip screwdrivers very handy for getting into the tight spaces. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Then switch the petcock to prime to fill the float chamber up (remember to close the drain screw first!).
I had to tinker around with the pilot screw (steel replacement after I trashed and drilled out the brass one: see my previos posts!) to get the flames to quit shooting out of my tailpipe!
Performance is awesome! I'm not sure about hp, but I went from a stop to about 45 mph in 2d gear in about 40 yards! On the highway, I backed off at 90 mph and climbing: it was too windy to go for the magic 100!!! Backfiring has pretty much ended (no load cracks, a couple subtle burps on deceleration from a sustained speed) and the sound is deeper yet. Keep in mind I'm running a stock HD pipe with the baffle punched (pretty much a straight pipe with some dampening around it, but no baffles to speak of!). No idea what I've done to gas consumption.... I'm going on a 250 mile ride (each way) next week, so I'll let you know around mid June!
Thanks to all for advice on carb stuff; I think I'm finally happy!
